FAQ

Is homeschooling actually legal in Australia?

Yes — in every state and territory. You register with your state authority (in South Australia, you gain an exemption from school attendance instead), and from there you're free to teach your child at home.

Is Vision Home School free? What's the catch?

There's no catch. The state guides, checklists and sourced steps on this site are completely free — no account, no paid tier. We're not a school or a curriculum seller, so we have no reason to make registration look harder (or more expensive) than it is.

Do I need a teaching qualification?

No. Every state's standard is about the quality of your child's learning program, not about you holding a degree. If you can plan, guide and monitor your child's progress, you meet the bar.

What documents will I actually need?

It varies by state, but usually includes your child's birth certificate, a written learning plan or program outline, and a simple registration form. Your state's guide lists the exact checklist, sourced from your authority's own page.

Do I have to follow the Australian Curriculum exactly?

It depends on your state — some ask you to align closely with it, others only ask that your program suit your child's age and ability. Your state's guide states the exact standard, with a link to the source.

What happens after I register — is there ongoing paperwork?

Most states ask for an annual report or renewal so your authority can see your child is progressing. It's usually one document a year, not an ongoing burden — your state guide has the exact timeline.
